Change to Green Initiatives Earth Conscious

ABCirque founded by Angela Buccinni Butch is an eco-conscious, immersive, experiential performance company. The concept was to craft works that were not only multi-sensory and magical, but socially conscious, can open difficult dialogues as well as minimal environmental impact which is of paramount importance in all we do. ABCirque acknowledges the impact performing arts can have on the environment and wanted to find ways to create quality  sustainable work with the smallest carbon footprint.   Some of the ways we work on this are simple such as 2nd-hand merchandise we sell rather than printing new.  We thrift and our team screen prints in house all of our merchandise making one of a kind garments that are hand crafted and 2nd hand.  On a larger scale other ways we focused our green initiative when we had our own venue at the former Muse Brooklyn everything we could was to build Green. We often worked in collaboration with films striking or Material from the arts in the city to build our sets or venue out with all repurposed reused and recycled materials .  Our entire backyard was built by hand with 100% green, earth-friendly, recycled materials turning trash into potters and beautiful living art installations with potted flowers and plants. We intentionally planted flowers to help butterflies and bees populations as well as deter mosquitoes naturally while creating a true heaven where circus artists could train outdoors in a living breathing art yard.  Our interior was also fully furnished with 2nd-hand materials and all DIY built with salvaged materials right down to our floor boards and even toilets.

With a little imagination and all hands on deck, this community of artists were able ride the soaring highs and sweeping lows to build our circus dream home. And boy, was she a fixer-upper.

Our circus home at 350 Moffat street was once a foundry and a granite storage unit. It was then vacated for years and filled to the brim with trash.

Not to mention outside. We found critters, needles, and piles upon piles upon piles of trash. But we were motivated.

With the space now clear, we needed a floor.

We also built a bathroom.

Slowly but surely, nail by nail, color by color, we turned our big, barren warehouse, into a circus home.

We pride ourselves on being earth-friendly through and through. To this day, everything is made with recycled, reused, and repurposed materials!

But more than floors, and backyards, and bathrooms, and training spaces…

We built a community
